Rich to Speak at Augie on the day after the Primary
Rich Morthland, Republican candidate for state representative in Illinois’71st District will speak to Augustana College political science students and student activists on Wednesday, February 3, at 4 PM in Old Main Hall. “It seems a little unusual to be giving a lecture rather than a stump speech on the first day of the general election campaign cycle, but I’m honored to have the opportunity,” said Morthland. “The event organizers asked me to use my experience as a Rock Island County Board Member and candidate for state office to inform them about the interactions of different levels of government.” The Augustana College Republicans are sponsoring the event.
“Many of these students are enrolled in a local and state government class and this will be a great opportunity for us to hear from a local elected official who also is working to serve in Springfield,” said Samantha Hoffman, president of the Augustana College Republicans. “I have told Mr. Morthland to expect a bipartisan crowd. We’re hoping for a strong turnout since one of our professors is offering extra credit for students who are willing to learn more about their government outside of class.” A question-and-answer period will follow Morthland’s prepared remarks.
The event is open to the public. For more information, e-mail Jonathan Wallace, jonthn@gmail.com or electmorthland@gmail.com.
