News Flash Boland pay repeal passes house

For Immediate Release:

Moments ago, the Illinois House of Representatives passed SB333 with the Boland Amendment requiring the repeal of the Rock Island County pay raises. The bill now returns to the Senate for Concurrence.  Rich Morthland, a Rock Island County Board Member who has been leading the local fight to repeal the raises responded, “I do not like to see the General Assembly reaching down and removing local control, but today, the members of the General Assembly sent a loud, clear message, ‘Rock Island County, your pay raises are out of control! If you won’t stop them, we will.’ It’s gratifying to see the state-wide coverage of this story making an impact.”

“The passage of the bill underscores the need for reform and change to bring about accountability and transparency in government,” Morthland continued. This is an action that the county government should have taken themselves and exemplifies the need for reform.”

Morthland has been calling for special County Board meetings to repeal recent raises for County officials through adoption of “The Morthland Resolution.” “We will keep up the pressure until this matter is resolved,” said Morthland. “We want to make sure that the people win, not the politicians.”
