Letter: Hats off to Morthland, others for rejecting pay hike

It is seldom that I have ever written a letter to the editor in as much as I don’t find many issues that really get to my heart.

The issue of the raise in pay for some elected officials being reserved was completely phenomenal. Can you believe it? Their pay is really substantial in many ways comparing it with other residents of Rock Island County. Congratulations to Rich Morthland who started the entire change by speaking out on the people’s rights and by going to the people. This certainly doesn’t happen that often.

By the way, why is the salary of the chairman of the board being increased to $90,000 this December? Wow! That doesn’t make sense to me.

My congrats go out to Rich Morthland and any of the county board members who followed in his footsteps. A good day for Rock Island County!

Ruth Kelly,

Savanna
