Eight of Nine ready to call for special County Board meeting
News Release: For Immediate Release
Steve Meersman (D-Moline) and Fred Schultz (D-Silvis) have joined the growing list of Members of the Rock Island County Board who have agreed to sign a letter requesting a special meeting of the County Board on Thursday to discuss and reconsider action on pay increases for Rock Island County elected officials.
“We need only one more Member,” said Rich Morthland, who is spearheading the effort. “I think were going to make it. It’s hard to reach people on a holiday weekend. I have many voice mails out there and two ‘maybes’ on the list.”
Phil Fuhr (D-Taylor Ridge), Virgil Dueysen (D-East Moline), John Malvik (D-Moline), Karen Kinney (D-Rock Island), Wanda Sweat (D-Moline), and Rich Morthland (R-Cordova) along with Meersman and Schultz have all agreed to sign the letter.
State law requires one-third of the members of the county board, or nine members, to sign the letter requesting the special meeting.
Please expect no more updates between now and Tuesday in honor of and respect for Memorial Day.
