Candidates Speak Out On Healthcare
Several days after the US House of Representatives voted on “Healthcare Reform,” voters are still asking what positions their local candidates and officeholders have taken. I personally received many inquiries. I favor healthcare reform, but strongly opposed the bill that Congress passed and the President signed.
Contrary to some claims, no one opposes legitimate improvements to the health insurance system. However, we need tort reform, interstate competition between private insurance providers, and portability changes. Such measures would control spiraling costs. America also needs to properly address the preexisting condition situation.
However, the new law was the wrong answer. States must oppose it and many are. In Illinois, House Republicans have sponsored a trio of bills to protect us from the negative impacts of Congress’ action. Email the campaign at electmorthland@gmail.com and we will send you the provisions of these proposed acts.
The next Congress must repeal and replace the new healthcare legislation with common sense solutions. If we do not, the United States will follow European nations and ration care, degrade services, and stop medical innovation. Nearly all Medical discoveries occur in the US precisely because we are the only leading industrial nation with a private healthcare system.
